Confuzzzled........With A Headache, Flu And High Temperature

Okay Nabz Is Bizak In Da Building Okay That's A Lie..........
coz im still not allowed on school site so for the last week of my exclusion ill be updating my blog from yard....

Okay lets get started by me clarifying why my blog hasn't been updated... in my 1st week of exclusion i was more worried about if im getting kicked out of sixth form or not so i didn't really have media in my mind and on top of that i had my theory test at the end of that weeek, i know i should'ov been sorting my media out but im happy i revised my theory for that week because i passed and im still in canon palmer which im thankful to god for. i thank mr white if he helped me in anyway way possible to keep me in the school, thank u sir, im sure u put in a good word to mr maguire since im one of ur best studuents aha....

In the second week of my exclusion i was extremely ill and have been since..
i've had very high temperature, i couldn't see clearly, a flu and continuous headaches due to my sleeping disorders which get me to sleeep at around 5 in the morning but as i say 'shiii' i mean mr white says 'shift happens'........

But now even though im still not in normal health i thought im taking the pi** not updating my blog...
Oh yea another reason why i haven't updated my blog is because one of my close friends has launched a new social networking website with a virtual usb feature on it and i've been helping them get users so everbody reading this go on

www.we-usb.com

and register to the website and for new music videos from around the world go chek out

www.we-music.tv

Thanks for signing up who ever does sign up after readin this.. because we really appreciate the help.........

Okay now lets get going and talk about media since im justifying my self like an id**t.... as i am aware of, we where given our test papers already and we had to choose a topic we would like to do and think of a hypothesis...... to me on that whole list of topics only two stuck out in which i could be familiar and interested enough to research about and they where:

SPORT AND THE MEDIA
(im an ameteur boxer so i would enjoy doing my critical research about boxing and the media)

CRIME AND THE MEDIA
(i know alot of criminals aha only joking)

Okay from looking at the walls of isolation for a week i thought of 4 hypothesis' that i could do, i thought of two for cime and the media and two for sport and the media remember if these sound stupid it don't matter because they where initial ideas that needed major development..........

SPORT AND THE MEDIA INITIAL HYPOTHESIS

1)How asians are presented in the British Boxing Aossociations?

2)How the british media is biased with their national boxers because of the representation of their country?

CRIME AND THE MEDIA INITIAL HYPOTHESIS

1)How the media creates moral panic only to sell more by reporting islamic extremism?

2)How muslims feel that the media targets them based on less then 10% of the religions viewpoint? oh yea jus thought ide let you know muslims r not terrorists because a terrorists way ofi thinking can never be the same as a muslims

After a week of which i saw as pointless isolation i was allowed to go to one media lesson to discuss my hypothesis with Miss Ward which i was extremely grateful for can't remember the teacher that let me but thank you who ever it was......

So when talking to Miss Ward about my possible hypothesis she outlined that the 1st sport and the media one was too weak to look into and the 2nd crime and the media one was emmmm i cant remember what she exactly said but im jus going to say controversial............

So she reworded the remaing two hypothesis for me (thanks madam for doing that) and told me to go and figure out if ill have enough research materials for each one and since then i haven't spoken to any of my media teachers because i've been at home and on top of that i don't feel right asking mr white on his blog because i can't discuss my ideas properly so im jus gonna list down primary and secondary research for the remaining week and on my return to school im going to discuss it with one of my media teachers.......

MADAM'S REWORDING

SPORT AND THE MEDIA
>> TO WHAT EXTENT DO BRITISH PRESS PRESENT A BIASED FOCUS OF BRITISH BOXING <<

CRIME AND THE MEDIA
>> HAS BRITISH MEDIA CREATED MORAL PANIC ONLY TO SELL MORE THROUGH IT'S REPORTING OF ISLAMIC EXTREMISM <<

Gaming.. Social Networking.. Very Powerful Indeed

Game design and social networks are merging into one of the most persuasive forces on the net.

That assertion was made by a string of speakers at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco.

"Social networking is a game in and of itself," explained Jennifer Pahlka, co-chair of the conference.

She highlighted networks such as Facebook and LinkedIn that make public the number of friends a person has, posts how well a user does on certain applications and displays what level they are at.

"There are all these game dynamics built into the social web," said Ms Pahlka.

"So the idea that there is a game market here and a web market here isn't true. The two are influencing each other."

Perhaps the greatest effect of that interplay can be seen in the rise and rise of the social gamer.

Recent figures by research firm Park Associates estimates that 34% of US adult internet users play online games weekly.

The moment you make the gaming more personal and meaningful, the better the experience for the user

Guy Ben-Artzi

Those figures present opportunities to developers and social networking sites alike.

For example MySpace has just announced the public launch of its "applications gallery" at Web 2.0. Central to those applications will be games.

Steve Pearman of the firm told BBC News: "This will take what you can do inside a social network to a new level. If you can provide something cool for my users I will be happy."

Meaningful play

One duo who believe they have a cool application that will appeal to the growing social gaming community are Galia and Guy Ben-Artzi.

The Ben-Artzi's are a brother and sister behind a start up called Mytopia, which they describe as a social gaming community where everyone can play together.

It offers everything from chess to Sudoku and hearts to poker which you can play directly from their site or via Facebook, MySpace, Hi5 and Bebo.

"Social networks offer a revolutionary way for people to play with friends and communities that have meaningful value to them in their real life," said Guy Ben-Artzi, who confesses he used to be a gamer who would do anything to win.

"The moment you make the gaming more personal and meaningful, the better the experience for the user," he added.

"The ability to play with the people I care about and connect with them is what is appealing to me," explained Galia, who is a fan of Suduko and plays online with her mother.

"Logging in and playing with strangers was exciting when the internet was new but the modern web is personal and social and it is clear that the internet is being used for social purposes to connect people rather than isolate them."

Gaming principles

One hardcore gamer said the shift to social gaming was inevitable as Web 2.0 flourished.

Lyle Fong and his brother Denis, who once won a Ferrari in a gaming competition, were serious players who also set up Gamers.com as an online community for like-minded people.

He is now the CEO of Lithium Technologies, which makes software for companies such as Dell, AT&T, Sony PlayStation and Nokia using gaming principles.

"We build up these reputation systems with levels and rankings just as you would if it was a game and by applying these gaming principles it helps build these thriving successful communities."

As he eschews his hardcore background, Mr Fong admits that social gaming is here to stay and will only continue to grow for obvious reasons.

"If you look at these sites like Facebook and LinkedIn you can post notes and chat and swap photos but that's not very engaging. Social gaming makes it fun and that's really very neat."

SpongeBob A Threat.. Wow That Would Be Scary

Ask a parent what they're most afraid of when their kids go online and the answer is unlikely to be SpongeBob SquarePants. Few fear that their children will be indoctrinated into a bizarre new society by Nickelodeon's box-shaped poriferan. They're being naive.

Virtual worlds are the new battlegrounds for toy manufacturers, kids TV channels and software companies with an eye on the youth market. It is the classic no-brainer. These days, kids are so into social networking sites that their parents have to get Bebo accounts just to call them down to dinner. The same kids are also into videogames and would probably be into Second Life if it wasn't aimed at over-18s. So, combine social networking, gaming and youth-friendly virtual living into one experience and you're practically mainlining your brand into the eyeballs of a whole generation.

This was doubtless what Disney was thinking last year when it bought child-friendly online community Club Penguin. It is certainly what Mattel had in mind when it set up Barbie Girls, an online community based around the popular dolls, which attracted 3 million users within 60 days of its launch. It's on more than 10 million now - impressive, but dwarfed by the massively multiplayer animal-rearing community Neopets and its 45 million pet owners.

Now Nickelodeon, which already has a virtual world in the shape of Nicktropolis, is expected to launch two more: one based in SpongeBob's universe, and another named Monkey World, an original IP. The former will be scarily huge, the latter will have its work cut out, with new kid-centric virtual worlds popping up seemingly on a daily basis.

What media companies love about virtual worlds is the opportunity to truly engage with the youth demographic on a symbiotic level. It's not about shouting at kids from a TV set any more; it's about creating a world for them, and then subtly loading it with messages. And hey, if you can't set up a virtual world, why not advertise in one? Social entertainment company Doppelganger has just signed a partnership with in-game advertising specialist Double Fusion, which will allow real-time targeted ads to appear in teen virtual world vSide. Double Fusion CEO Jonathan Epstein referred to vSide as "a place where advertisers can develop powerful interactions with their teen audiences". Sinister stuff.

The imaginative and social universes children used to create for themselves have now been populated by toymakers and TV networks. Virtual space, head space and ad space are the new holy trinity of corporate manipulation and indoctrination. And to think my parents worried about me watching Tiswas.

myGAMMA what the hell is that? I don't know maybe the biggest social networking mobile service in the world.. Oh I Knew That

We are so used to the US dominating social networks it comes as a surprise that a company claiming to have the biggest social network on mobile phones is not Facebook or MySpace but a little known outfit, myGamma, based in Singapore. Its target audience is the "newly connected middle classes" in developing countries and blue collar workers elsewhere. It is trying to attract the millions who can't yet afford a web connection on a PC but who can through entry-level phones such as a Nokia or Samsung. It must be one of the biggest untapped markets in the world; myGamma, owned by BuzzCity in which the Singapore government is the smallest shareholder, is in the throes of a global expansion that could take it anywhere.

It has a claimed user base of 2.4 million subscribers, rising fast. I found it easy to locate communities in South Africa - where there are 200,000 users - and China (despite not being able to communicate) though not Zimbabwe, which would have been particularly interesting at the moment. It has its own mail system and virtual currency and claims to be the biggest network designed for mobiles rather than being a bolt-on to a PC service. It also, unusually, has a global pay-per-click advertising service.

myGamma is 100% user-generated content, which is both a strength (instant global reactions) and a weakness, as too much of the content is unmediated drivel that ought to be off limits to young children. Although designed for mobiles, that doesn't in itself solve the problem of legibility when so much information is squeezed into a small area.

Part of its success is due to low-cost data tariffs in developing countries, such as two rupees a day in India. Unsurprisingly the first significant take-up in the UK (12,000 users) was by T-Mobile, an early adopter of all-you-can-eat data tariffs. Recently Arabic writing started to be typed in from countries such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia and people have just started joining in Iran. "It just happened," says cofounder Dr Lai Kok Fung, who claims it could cope with a sudden increase in Europe without scaling problems.

myGamma is one of a number of projects in developing countries that could spread to the rest of the world.

MYSPACE's INDIVIDUALITY

Myspace's Uniqueness

This time last year, if you were to lurk in one of those places where “young people” accumulate, chances are you'd hear them barking “What's your MySpace?” at each other through their silly fringes. No need for telephone numbers, email addresses or complicated URLs.

But 2007 might be the year when MySpace becomes, like, so 2006. At the heart of all social networking services is a relatively simple framework, and one of the things MySpace had over its original rivals such as Friendster is the comparative freedom its users are allowed within it: it was also canny enough to allow their users to exploit this to their own satisfaction.

But what happens when, instead of offering a totally blank slate, new social networks crop up to serve the specific interests of an audience? This is what we're likely to see happen increasingly in 2007, as every man and his dog finds a niche social networking site just for them. Literally. Just look at pet-networking site Dogster, car-owning community Boompa, or London Fridaycities, the intentionally localized networking site hoping to nurture real-world connections (more localities are promised for the future).

To make matters worse for MySpace, companies are specializing in every part of the spectrum – with younger users lured to the chirpier and more focused Bebo, and people looking for a higher level of virtual social interaction and representation moving into new spaces like Second Life.

Meanwhile, functionality such as event-sharing (covered previously) and bulletins is being handled better by dedicated services. Take Twitter for example, the up-and-coming communication tool that actively encourages you to barrage your friends with a constant stream of updates about what you're doing via every conceivable platform.

Let's not forget, though, that MySpace is still in a very strong position, and it didn't get there without being flexible. Like YouTube or the iPod it also has a brand advantage and a specialization of its own: a healthy reputation for indie music. Even with white-label equivalents available to anyone off the cybershelf, for MySpace the groundwork has already been done, and for that reason it's not likely to be forgotten any time soon, even if the kids get momentarily distracted by something else.

LIAR

“LIAR”

Ask yourself are you manipulated by the media? Do you get convinced when you watch an advert? Does the media have a subliminal meaning? Does it make u buy things? The media is evolving every day and probably will never stop! From weekly magazines to 24hour news updates on the internet. To a number of channels on the television to entertaining films and games. Every single country no matter where you are in the world will have something to do with the media or be in the media. Whether that is about it going to war or it rising economically.

People say the media controls the world. I personally believe that to be true it’s like when people say the media is the key to promotion for if u didn’t have the media for promotion you would never be able to advertise world wide. What is meant by the media controlling the world? Does it actually mean the media is GOD? No I didn’t think so, it basically means the media is the key to success. For example if the televisions never broadcasted the Oscars would you have seen it? If the gossip magazine never printed would you have your favourite Celebrity was pregnant? know if the newspapers weren’t running half the stories in their, you would probably never ever now about them and that is the truth because the media does run the world. People are influenced by the media but not everyone because if that was so the last scary film I watched was Halloween and after it finished it didn’t make me a crazy little mass murderer.

The media can be summed up in a word but that word is then four words.
LIAR - Language, Institution, Audience and Representation.
These four words give the meaning to the word Media.
Language is used far too often to represent the way somebody speaks or what part of the world they come from, but the media has its own meaning to language, it helps us interpret, receive and understand what the media says to us. For example President Bush going to war with Iraq we didn’t need him to say his going to war with Iraq he simply could’ve blew a missile up and we would’ve know this. Not because of his language but it is because of his actions. For language in media can be from a simple movement to a emotional breakdown from whispering to shouting.
Institution means established practice which in media today can me grouped into several topics such as lifestyle, gossip, politics, music, games, films and many more. These are topics that have become most important in our lives throughout the years they have changes altered but definitely never stayed the same. For example lets going in the topics of games compare the graphics of the Sega Mega Drive to the Xbox 360 see the difference that’s is what is meant by the media evolving.
Audience this is where we are targeted not just YOU but everybody. Remember we are all part of an audience whether it is for the latest game to a simple thing like earrings. All audiences are different but for the companies to get their things to sell they need to target a audience thought the media. For example if Beyonce released a new perfume she wouldn’t advertise it in a games magazine. That just wouldn’t make sense but she would advertise it in a women’s magazine such as cosmopolitan because the target audience would probably be woman who care about their looks.
Representation what do you think this means? how a person is represented in character, action, behaviour and looks? NO for the media its normally a stereotypical view of a group not an individual so for example if you saw a group of young black youths on the corner of the street and they had theirs hoods up and pants low. Your initial reaction would be to cross the street and think their going to start trouble not because u know their trouble makers but just because the media normally portrays the stereotypical view of black youths as troublemakers. This is why they say the media is manipulating because truth be told it is it manipulates and gets ideas into our heads the audience about certain things we may disagree with it or agree but the ideas still get into our head.

So if the media controls the world then who controls the media well truthfully not sure but I can come up with a name close enough to control the media: Rupert Murdoch owner and chairman of News corp. investor in satellite television, the film industry, the Internet, and other forms of media. One of the biggest media moguls in the world.

Dial M for music - labels bank on mobile downloads

Record labels are predicting that this month's launch of three new mobile phone music services will usher a return of rising sales after years of decline.

Apple's music-playing iPhone grabbed the headlines with its arrival in Britain last week. But music executives are just as excited about the new unlimited downloads service launched on Vodafone. And Nokia, the world's largest maker of mobile phones, has opened a digital music store here.

Some industry insiders are predicting a revolution that will see mobile downloading approaching that of highly developed markets such as Japan.

The world's biggest music company, Universal, is backing the MusicStation, the Vodafone service. Rob Wells, head of digital at Universal's international division said, "We are at a turning point in the UK," he says, predicting digital music sales here could offset falling CD sales within a year.

Global sales have been falling since 2000, down another 5% to £9.4bn last year. Although digital sales are rising fast, at a tenth of the total market, they have yet to make up for tumbling CD sales.

One place where the gap has been closed is Japan. Total music sales there edged up 1% last year. Japan's success in offsetting falling CD sales.

There are already indications that mobile music sales are picking up in the UK. The Orange UK network says its music sales jumped 70% over the past six months and it expects them to double by the end of 2007.

They expect the UK mobile music market to almost double from a predicted $83m this year to $156m in 2011.

4 out of 10 UK mobiles can now play music.

There are hopes handsets will improve further from a music-playing perspective thanks to the iPhone. Apple's handset is not seen by the record labels as a big driver of revenues but it has been credited with raising the bar for phone manufacturers.

Although prices have fallen, payment is simpler and handsets easier to use.

"Can something like this save the music industry? Well, NO. Because firstly it's only on Vodafone at the moment and secondly it's very cheap.

"There is a potential market there but I think it does get overestimated ," he says.

"It's relatively easy to buy music on your PC and although sales have grown it still hasn't compensated for the physical decline."
Questions
How many music services are being launched this month?
What year did Global CD sales begin to fall from?
Are predictions saying Digital Sales will overtake CD sales?
Which country has already been successful in bridging the gap from falling CD sales?

Symbian dismisses Google

Symbian powers more than 165 million phones

Google's dominance of the web will not translate to the mobile phone market, a senior executive at Symbian has said.

John Forsyth, vice president of strategy at Symbian, the platform that powers many of the world's phones, said Google lacked experience.

Google formed an alliance with 33 firms to develop an open platform for mobile phones, called Android.

Meanwhile, the head of Nokia in the UK said the firm was in discussions with Google about using the platform.

Simon Ainslie, Nokia UK's managing director, said: "We are always open to discuss and debate on that.

"We are having ongoing discussions with Google."

Mr Ainslie said the time was not right to make any announcement as to "how we can work with them".

He also said Nokia was very happy with its partnership with Symbian.

He said: "It's the world's most used platform. It's not a simple solution to make a platform work on a mobile."

"It's not search rocket science."

Symbian's recent financial results show it sold 20.4m smartphone software licenses in the last quarter of 2007 and since the company was launched nine years ago more than 165 million phones have been shipped using its platform.

Mr Forsyth said there was nothing to indicate that Google's dominance of the web would make it successful as a mobile phone platform provider.

"Search and a mobile phone platform are completely different things.

"It's costly, arduous and at times a deeply unsexy job of supporting customers day by day in launching phones. That's something there's very little experience of in Google's environment.
"if you are a serious phone maker and you are asked to bet your handsets on somebody, you would want to bet on someone with a track record of delivery and support."

Mr Forsyth also questioned whether developers would flock to the system.

"They are talking about having a phone by the end of next year. It's not one that is going to ignite developers."

Questions?

Why did Symbian reject Google?

What stopped Google from transferring their service to the mobile phones?

How many years has Symbian been running for?

NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGY

New
Media
Technology

What would YOU define as New Media Technology?

A
PSP,
iPOD TOUCH,
XBOX 360,
or a NOKIA N95

I agree they are new media technology, BUT remember they will NEVER be able to keep to that name, maybe to media technology but not to NEW. For they will SOON become OLD media technologie when a NEW model is made........... because of the factor that media is evolving everyday so we will never class one thing as new for a better one is always made if the media is involved because the media is using technologie in the most creative ways.

Take an average cassette player for example......
1. WE WOULD TURN IT ON
2. INSERT THE CASSETTE
3. REWIND THE TAPE IF NEEDED (for it could only go one way or the other)
4. PRESSED PLAY
5. AND LISTEN

Summary: The casstte player helped us carry and listen to our music.

Then the CD Players were invented...............
(this allowed us to listen to music at which ever point in the song we wanted too)
1. WE WOULD TURN IT ON
2. INSERT THE CD
3. PRESS PLAY
4. AND LISTEN

Summary: This helped move to points faster then cassettes where we wanted to play our songs.

finally the Mp3..........
(which has also been replaced by the mp4 but i will not go on and on and on for it never stops)
1. WE WOULD TURN IT ON
2. PRESS PLAY
3. AND LISTEN

Summary: From then we jumped to MP3 players these little devise were usually smaller then cassette players so it helped us in carrying less weight then it helped store more then we ever could imagine it just mattered on the memory we bought it with.

SEE HOW THESE STEPS ARE GETTING SHORTER......
THIS IS THE BEAUTY OF TECHNOLOGY......
IT MAKES IT EASIER,QUICKER AND BETTER
FOR US TO USE......
