LIAR

“LIAR”

Ask yourself are you manipulated by the media? Do you get convinced when you watch an advert? Does the media have a subliminal meaning? Does it make u buy things? The media is evolving every day and probably will never stop! From weekly magazines to 24hour news updates on the internet. To a number of channels on the television to entertaining films and games. Every single country no matter where you are in the world will have something to do with the media or be in the media. Whether that is about it going to war or it rising economically.

People say the media controls the world. I personally believe that to be true it’s like when people say the media is the key to promotion for if u didn’t have the media for promotion you would never be able to advertise world wide. What is meant by the media controlling the world? Does it actually mean the media is GOD? No I didn’t think so, it basically means the media is the key to success. For example if the televisions never broadcasted the Oscars would you have seen it? If the gossip magazine never printed would you have your favourite Celebrity was pregnant? know if the newspapers weren’t running half the stories in their, you would probably never ever now about them and that is the truth because the media does run the world. People are influenced by the media but not everyone because if that was so the last scary film I watched was Halloween and after it finished it didn’t make me a crazy little mass murderer.

The media can be summed up in a word but that word is then four words.
LIAR - Language, Institution, Audience and Representation.
These four words give the meaning to the word Media.
Language is used far too often to represent the way somebody speaks or what part of the world they come from, but the media has its own meaning to language, it helps us interpret, receive and understand what the media says to us. For example President Bush going to war with Iraq we didn’t need him to say his going to war with Iraq he simply could’ve blew a missile up and we would’ve know this. Not because of his language but it is because of his actions. For language in media can be from a simple movement to a emotional breakdown from whispering to shouting.
Institution means established practice which in media today can me grouped into several topics such as lifestyle, gossip, politics, music, games, films and many more. These are topics that have become most important in our lives throughout the years they have changes altered but definitely never stayed the same. For example lets going in the topics of games compare the graphics of the Sega Mega Drive to the Xbox 360 see the difference that’s is what is meant by the media evolving.
Audience this is where we are targeted not just YOU but everybody. Remember we are all part of an audience whether it is for the latest game to a simple thing like earrings. All audiences are different but for the companies to get their things to sell they need to target a audience thought the media. For example if Beyonce released a new perfume she wouldn’t advertise it in a games magazine. That just wouldn’t make sense but she would advertise it in a women’s magazine such as cosmopolitan because the target audience would probably be woman who care about their looks.
Representation what do you think this means? how a person is represented in character, action, behaviour and looks? NO for the media its normally a stereotypical view of a group not an individual so for example if you saw a group of young black youths on the corner of the street and they had theirs hoods up and pants low. Your initial reaction would be to cross the street and think their going to start trouble not because u know their trouble makers but just because the media normally portrays the stereotypical view of black youths as troublemakers. This is why they say the media is manipulating because truth be told it is it manipulates and gets ideas into our heads the audience about certain things we may disagree with it or agree but the ideas still get into our head.

So if the media controls the world then who controls the media well truthfully not sure but I can come up with a name close enough to control the media: Rupert Murdoch owner and chairman of News corp. investor in satellite television, the film industry, the Internet, and other forms of media. One of the biggest media moguls in the world.

Dial M for music - labels bank on mobile downloads

Record labels are predicting that this month's launch of three new mobile phone music services will usher a return of rising sales after years of decline.

Apple's music-playing iPhone grabbed the headlines with its arrival in Britain last week. But music executives are just as excited about the new unlimited downloads service launched on Vodafone. And Nokia, the world's largest maker of mobile phones, has opened a digital music store here.

Some industry insiders are predicting a revolution that will see mobile downloading approaching that of highly developed markets such as Japan.

The world's biggest music company, Universal, is backing the MusicStation, the Vodafone service. Rob Wells, head of digital at Universal's international division said, "We are at a turning point in the UK," he says, predicting digital music sales here could offset falling CD sales within a year.

Global sales have been falling since 2000, down another 5% to £9.4bn last year. Although digital sales are rising fast, at a tenth of the total market, they have yet to make up for tumbling CD sales.

One place where the gap has been closed is Japan. Total music sales there edged up 1% last year. Japan's success in offsetting falling CD sales.

There are already indications that mobile music sales are picking up in the UK. The Orange UK network says its music sales jumped 70% over the past six months and it expects them to double by the end of 2007.

They expect the UK mobile music market to almost double from a predicted $83m this year to $156m in 2011.

4 out of 10 UK mobiles can now play music.

There are hopes handsets will improve further from a music-playing perspective thanks to the iPhone. Apple's handset is not seen by the record labels as a big driver of revenues but it has been credited with raising the bar for phone manufacturers.

Although prices have fallen, payment is simpler and handsets easier to use.

"Can something like this save the music industry? Well, NO. Because firstly it's only on Vodafone at the moment and secondly it's very cheap.

"There is a potential market there but I think it does get overestimated ," he says.

"It's relatively easy to buy music on your PC and although sales have grown it still hasn't compensated for the physical decline."

Symbian dismisses Google

Symbian powers more than 165 million phones

Google's dominance of the web will not translate to the mobile phone market, a senior executive at Symbian has said.

John Forsyth, vice president of strategy at Symbian, the platform that powers many of the world's phones, said Google lacked experience.

Google formed an alliance with 33 firms to develop an open platform for mobile phones, called Android.

Meanwhile, the head of Nokia in the UK said the firm was in discussions with Google about using the platform.

Simon Ainslie, Nokia UK's managing director, said: "We are always open to discuss and debate on that.

"We are having ongoing discussions with Google."

Mr Ainslie said the time was not right to make any announcement as to "how we can work with them".

He also said Nokia was very happy with its partnership with Symbian.

He said: "It's the world's most used platform. It's not a simple solution to make a platform work on a mobile."

"It's not search rocket science."

Symbian's recent financial results show it sold 20.4m smartphone software licenses in the last quarter of 2007 and since the company was launched nine years ago more than 165 million phones have been shipped using its platform.

Mr Forsyth said there was nothing to indicate that Google's dominance of the web would make it successful as a mobile phone platform provider.

"Search and a mobile phone platform are completely different things.

"It's costly, arduous and at times a deeply unsexy job of supporting customers day by day in launching phones. That's something there's very little experience of in Google's environment.
"if you are a serious phone maker and you are asked to bet your handsets on somebody, you would want to bet on someone with a track record of delivery and support."

Mr Forsyth also questioned whether developers would flock to the system.

"They are talking about having a phone by the end of next year. It's not one that is going to ignite developers."

Questions?

Why did Symbian reject Google?

What stopped Google from transferring their service to the mobile phones?

How many years has Symbian been running for?

NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGY

New
Media
Technology

What would YOU define as New Media Technology?

A
PSP,
iPOD TOUCH,
XBOX 360,
or a NOKIA N95

I agree they are new media technology, BUT remember they will NEVER be able to keep to that name, maybe to media technology but not to NEW. For they will SOON become OLD media technologie when a NEW model is made........... because of the factor that media is evolving everyday so we will never class one thing as new for a better one is always made if the media is involved because the media is using technologie in the most creative ways.

Take an average cassette player for example......
1. WE WOULD TURN IT ON
2. INSERT THE CASSETTE
3. REWIND THE TAPE IF NEEDED (for it could only go one way or the other)
4. PRESSED PLAY
5. AND LISTEN

Summary: The casstte player helped us carry and listen to our music.

Then the CD Players were invented...............
(this allowed us to listen to music at which ever point in the song we wanted too)
1. WE WOULD TURN IT ON
2. INSERT THE CD
3. PRESS PLAY
4. AND LISTEN

Summary: This helped move to points faster then cassettes where we wanted to play our songs.

finally the Mp3..........
(which has also been replaced by the mp4 but i will not go on and on and on for it never stops)
1. WE WOULD TURN IT ON
2. PRESS PLAY
3. AND LISTEN

Summary: From then we jumped to MP3 players these little devise were usually smaller then cassette players so it helped us in carrying less weight then it helped store more then we ever could imagine it just mattered on the memory we bought it with.

SEE HOW THESE STEPS ARE GETTING SHORTER......
THIS IS THE BEAUTY OF TECHNOLOGY......
IT MAKES IT EASIER,QUICKER AND BETTER
FOR US TO USE......
